SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Above all else, we're followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that He was the Son of God, and that He meant what He said to His disciples, "I have come that you may have life, and have life abundant".

At First Baptist Church of Downers Grove, our mission is to boldly proclaim the gospel and to motivate believers to maturity in Christ.

RECURRING EVENTS

JOYFUL AGAIN

Joyful Again is a support group for the unique needs of the widows within our congregation.  Each month they meet socially or do a service project to affirm God’s restoration of their heart. They provide comfort to each other for the needs only they understand because of their shared experience.  Although the loss of a spouse is one of the most devastating things a person could be confronted with, the love of the Lord as expressed through others experiencing the same thing demonstrates that indeed one can be joyful again.

GOLDEN HEIRS

Golden Heirs is a ministry for seniors.  It is a time for them to fellowship together in a casual setting.  This group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month (except July and August) at 1:00pm in the fellowship hall at the church.  Lunch is provided followed by a short time of devotion and prayer.  Other events are also planned giving the group an opportunity to see and do fun and interesting things together.  Some of the events are at the church while others are “field trips”.  All in all, everyone looks forward to these times of camaraderie and fun.

SHUT-IN CARE

There is nothing more meaningful to a person who rarely gets out than having a visitor! On the third Wednesday and Thursday mornings of each month a team from First Baptist Church goes out to visit shut-ins. They go to the DuPage Convalescent Center and to various homes of those either shut in due to physical restrictions or due to aging for the purpose of encouraging them. This consists of listening, sharing Scripture, singing hymns and prayer. The team’s focus is Matthew 25:31-46.
